Albert “AL-B” Hannemann is a U.S. Olympic Festival Gold Medalist, winner of the prestigious Hermosa Beach Open and a U.S. Open Champion. Hannemann played professional beach volleyball for 18 years and retired in 2010 to found the National Volleyball League (NVL), which has become the premier domestic pro beach volleyball league. Hannemann attended UCLA and won a national championship as a freshman before transferring to the University of Hawaii where he was Student Athlete of the Year and an Academic All American.
In 2014, Hannemann established the amateur beach series, NVL RIZE, to provide a national ranking system for teams competing in the sanctioned tournaments, establishing a unifying platform to develop junior and amateur athletes, and creating a pipeline into the existing NVL Professional Tour. Hannemann invests a tremendous amount of energy promoting the sport to children across the country.In 2012, he founded the PlayFIT Foundation, which benefits children from undeserved communities with sports and volleyball equipment, health and nutrition seminars and award college scholarships. The Foundations mission is to keep kids active through sports while “Growing the Game” across the U.S.
